Established: June 6, 1899

Ouray Colorado Lodge #492 was granted dispensation in June of 1898 and formally granted their charter on June 6, 1899.

After renting the upstairs of a business for 4 years, enough money was raised to lay the corner stone of their new building in 1904. The building was completed in 1905, stands tall on Main Street in Ouray, and has provided Ouray Lodge #492 a gathering place ever since.

In 1999, we dedicated a few Lots next to the building as Ouray Elks Centennial Park and reenacted our charter presentation.

Our peak membership was in the 1930's when we had over 700
members. For over 15 years now we have maintained a membership level of 350 to 400.

Many events have happened with Ouray Lodge over the years, and the one event that stands out the most is Our Christmas Program. For over 70 years, volunteers from our Lodge have donated their Christmas Eve for delivering bags of candy, nuts and fruits to the children and older folks of Ouray County. Over 500 bags of goodies are delivered each year.
