Lodge History

Arvada Elks Lodge #2278
Arvada, Colorado

Established: March 31, 1963

The Lodge was instituted on March 31, 1963. It made Elks history with 576 charter members. Herschel Helm was one of the main organizers and served as first Exalted Ruler.

The first home was the former paint shop of Craig Chevrolet, on the Wadsworth By-pass. This was followed by the move to a former Presbyterian church at 56th Yukon, across from the present Lodge.

The present home was bought and occupied on Yukon St., April 1, 1977, and we remain there to this date. It was ideal as a former Safeway store for room, utilities, and, most important, parking. The dining room and Lodge room were refurbished in the early 90’s. The Club Room was refurbished in 2003 by members and highlighted our 40th Anniversary, when we installed our first lady Exalted Ruler, Elizabeth Schillinger.

A tradition of many years for Arvada Lodge is the preparation and serving of Rocky Mountain Oysters at the State Convention. Many a Grand Exalted Ruler has been introduced to this Western dish.

The Ladies Auxiliary is active and dedicated to aid in programs and activities. It goes without saying that we appreciate all they do! They became an Auxiliary in 1999.

This Lodge continually makes contributions to Charity causes locally, ENF, and Laradon Hall. One of our members, Gunter Lippman, has served as PER, PDDGER, PSP, Chairman of Grand Lodge Americanism Committee and was recently honored for 20 years service on the Board of Laradon Hall.

Present membership of our Lodge, as of April 1, 2004, is 1217.
